How to Reset a Canon Ink Chip - Computer Devices

Canon makes inkjet printers that use ink cartridges. Canon printers have a chip that tracks the ink usage utilized over time. But even when the monitor states that the ink cartridge is empty, in actuality it may not be, as the chip is not accurate at times. In these cases, this ink chip has to be reset to use the remaining ink in the cartridges.

Instructions

Step 1
Turn off the Canon printer then unplug the power cord from the power source. Also, disconnect the USB cord from your computer.

Step 2
Press and hold down the "Power" and "Resume" buttons simultaneously, and plug the power cord into an electrical outlet. This will start initialization on the printer.

Step 3
Release only the "Power" button (do not release the "Resume" button) and press and hold down the "Power" button again to start the test mode.

Step 4
Release both the "Power" and "Resume" buttons. This activates the service mode. Wait until the light display stops flashing.

Step 5
Press the "Resume" button to go through the printer settings until the "Reset Waste Ink Counter" or the "Ink Count" message appears. Press up to four times if necessary. Press the "0" button to reset the Cannon ink chip if the "Ink Count" message appears.

Step 6
Press the "Cartridge" button if necessary on some Canon bubble jet printers to reset the ink chip.

Step 7
Press the "OK" or "Set" button, turn the Canon printer off and unplug the printer from the electrical outlet.

Step 8
Plug in the printer to an electrical source, and then hook up the printer to your computer via the USB cable to reconnect the printer.

When you get the device name and find out its supporting drivers from some driver download websites, usually there are a great number of different drivers for you to choose. Well, then do you know how to choose the best one for your computer device?

In the first place, you should clear about what kind of operating system is in use, because suppliers often write distinct drivers for different Windows systems. When you get a driver through Internet, you can also see its available OS (such as Windows 2000/XP or Windows 98 /ME) following this driver description. You need to choose the driver with the correct OS. Otherwise your computer probably would work improperly or even shut down.

When you confirm the supporting system of your driver, you still would get many diverse versions to select. Take the commonly used Geforce video card as an example, we will find 53.03 version, 56.72 version and 61.11 version and so on. Usually, the larger the number is, the newer this version will be. Then some users may think that according to this principle, they should choose the version with the largest number for it is the latest one. It is true that the latest driver has the latest technology and it should be the best in principle. However, actually we should note that what kind of driver it is. In many cases, in order to be the first to capture the market or simply test some new technology, some of the latest drivers have not passed the very important WHQL (Microsoft Windows Hardware Quality Lab) certification.

A driver not passing the WHQL certification has no problem for computer gurus, because they take it as a pleasure to try the new technology, but for most PC users who need a stable system, they should pick up the driver that has passed this certification. On this premise, the newer the version is, the better this driver will be. However, there are always exceptions to everything, for instance, some UDA Nvidia video cards are not always fit for certain older video cards, for these drivers, you'd better learn about the driver evaluations in some related driver forums or refer to computer experts.

How to Clean a Clogged Stylus Printer

A common problem with inkjet printers is a clogged print head. A clogged print head disrupts the flow of ink onto paper, distorting the printout or leaving gaps. The print head becomes clogged when the excess ink dries, causing a blockage. The Epson Stylus printer was designed with a print head cleaning utility which clears the dried ink off the print head, allowing the ink to run freely through the print head.

Instructions

Step 1
Turn the printer on and verify that the low ink indicator is not blinking. If the indicator light is blinking, the printer cartridge needs to be changed before cleaning. Cleaning the print head uses ink. An empty ink cartridge will not properly clean the print head.

Step 2
If you are using Windows, right-click the Epson Stylus printer icon on the taskbar of your computer and choose "Head Cleaning."

If you are using a Macintosh, click Applications > Epson Printer Utility3 > your Epson Stylus model number > OK > Head Cleaning.

Step 3
Ensure the printer has paper installed and follow the onscreen directions to start the print head cleaning. The Power button indicator light will blink during cleaning. You will hear the printer operating. Cleaning is finished when the indicator light stops blinking.

Step 4
Click Print Nozzle Check Pattern > Print. You will be able to see if the print head cleaning worked. The Stylus will print out a series of lines in a grid pattern. Check the grid pattern for any breaks in the lines and click "Finish" if there are no breaks.

Step 5
Select "Clean" if the grid lines are broken to clean the print head a second time. Repeat the process if necessary. You can safely clean the print head up to four times if needed.

Tips & Warnings

Allow the printer to sit for at least six hours if the print head is not cleaned after four tries. This allows hardened printer ink to soften. After six hours, repeat the cleaning process.

How to Find a Compatible Printer Driver for Microsoft Vista (Computer Devices)

If you have a printer connected to your Vista computer that has worked fine all along, but suddenly stopped working, you may need to update your printer driver. Likewise, if you are attempting to install a new printer onto your computer, but the Windows Vista cannot "see" it or it simply does not work, updating the printer driver may solve these problems. You can find a compatible driver and install it in Windows Vista.

Instructions

Step 1
Click "Start" and type "Printers" into the "Start Search" box on the bottom of the "Start Menu." Click on "Printers" under the resulting list of programs. The "Printers" window will open.

Step 2
Locate the printer for which you want to find a compatible driver. Right-click this printer and point to "Run as Administrator."

Step 3
Click on "Properties." If a "User Account Control" window opens stating that Windows Vista needs your permission to continue, click the "Continue" button. If you are prompted for a password, enter the user password for your Windows account. The "Properties" dialog box for that printer will open separately.

Step 4
Go to the "Advanced" tab of the dialog box. Click "New Driver." The "Add Printer Driver Wizard" will open. Click "Next." Select the make and model of the printer and click "Next."

Step 5
Click the "Finish" button to close the wizard and complete the printer driver installation. Close the "Properties" dialog box and the "Printers" window. Restart the computer to complete the driver installation.
